LOCKNEY, TX – Floyd County Record is introducing a new series of interviews spotlighting players, giving readers a better insight to the athletes that represent Floyd County.

Today’s spotlight is on Lockney’s Adrian Hernandez.

Adrian is a senior at Lockney and is a center and defensive tackle for the Longhorns varsity football team.

What are you looking forward to in this year’s team as you enter your senior year?

Hernandez says, “I made varsity as a 13-year old freshman, and going against the bigger guys was hard, but both my freshman year and sophomore year were good learning years. But coming into this year, I haven’t felt this energy before, and I’m excited to see what we are capable of.

What are some of the aspects of football that you enjoy the most?

“The bond with the “fat guys” is unbreakable. Hitting people is one of my favorite parts, especially when I pancake a kid.”

Are there other things outside of football that you enjoy?

“Football and powerlifting are the sports that I like to focus on. I didn’t do powerlifting my freshman and sophomore years due to a knee injury, but in my junior year, I went to regionals and placed 6th.”

Who are some of your role models or mentors that you look to?

“I really look up to Coach Pritchard and Coach Thiebaud; Coach Pritchard is like a second dad to me, and Coach Thiebaud always has a high standard for us and pushes us to become the best that we can.”
