Grass Fires Majority of Firefighter Calls in August

FLOYDADA, TX – Dry conditions are to blame for five of the eight calls local firefighters responded to in August.

The Floydada Fire Department is made up completely of an all-volunteer staff and stayed busy battling grass fires during the month.

8/7/2023 10:21 PM Allsups – Gas leak
8/7/2023 11:03 PM 9 miles East on US70 – Grass fire caused by lightning.
8/12/2023 9:42 PM 5 miles east of Cedar Hill on FM97 – Power pole and grass on fire due to lightning.
8/17/2023 5:00 PM 10 miles West of US62 on FM54 – 3 small grass fires along FM54 in the county.
8/21/2023 3:54 PM 500 block of 2nd street – Small grass fire
8/21/2023 4:26 PM 1500 block of US62 – Small grass fire
8/28/2023 6:08 PM South of Dougherty on CR255 – Bee attack
