AUSTIN, TX – While the state continues to experience year-over-year growth in local sales tax collections from cities in Texas, Floyd County is struggling.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is sending cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for August, 2.8 percent more than in August 2022. These allocations are based on sales made in June by businesses that report monthly tax and on sales made in April, May, and June by quarterly filers.

Year over year, the gains for the state are 5.64 percent higher than in 2022.

For Floydada, the payment from the Comptroller’s office will be less than 85 percent of what was received last year ($33,074.09 is a 15.14 percent decline), and year-to-date comparisons find a more manageable decline of 2.96 percent ($248,074.95).

Lockney’s decline from last year is less than three percent (2.54 percent at $13,981.51), and the year-to-date is slightly lower (decline of 1.11 percent) to $103,802.78.
