Joyce, ‘Mimi’ as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly referred to her, was born on October 21, 1952, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Raymond and Anna Lee (Harris) Davis. She was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Spiro, Oklahoma, in 1970. She met her future husband, Ed Marks, at a small café in Sunset Corner, Oklahoma. After a whirlwind romance, they were married on July 10, 1970, in Muleshoe, Texas. They began their life together in Rotan, TX, where they had two daughters. After a few years there, they found their way to Lockney, TX, where they settled, added a son, and raised their family. Joyce worked in the school in Lockney for 35 years, holding many positions. She first began as a teacher’s aide, then a P.E. teacher, the elementary librarian, and finally finished her career in LISD as a cafeteria manager. Because she was not one to sit idly, she usually took on other jobs, such as working at Brown’s Dept. Store and later Schacht’s flower shop. She was well known for helping so many in the community. She could often be seen working in her yard, taking care of her flowers, and digging weeds in friends’ yards. She was a loving and caring person willing to step in and help many in the community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Lee, one sister, Goldie Saulsbury, two brothers, Dewitt and Billy Davis, one niece, Mary Davis, and one great-niece, K.D. Osburn.
