FLOYDADA, TX – Following approval last month, Floyd County will soon be a part of the Hale County Literacy Council.
The Council was established in 1986 and has a mission to increase literacy awareness in the adult population and to use ready-to-read education with children and their families.
Two board members will spearhead the expansion into Floyd County: Dr. Rebekah Crowe in Floydada and Dr. Sarah Hartman in Lockney.
The Council assists and enhances literacy efforts by serving as an information source, acting as a liaison between developing and existing programs, and linking individuals and services in the community.
One key program offered through the Council is “Girls Who Code.” The program is offered in partnership with the Computer Science program at Wayland Baptist University for girls who are interested in learning computer science and coding. There are two age groups, 3rd-5th grade and 6th-12th grade.
