Joan Davidson (Idalou)

Joan Frances King Davidson passed from this life on July 6, 2023, following a brief hospitalization.

Joan, the only daughter of Herman Renick and Margaret Lorene Workman King, was born in Hale Center, Texas October 15, 1955. She lived until she was eighteen on the family farm in north Floyd County, Texas. Joan attended school in Lockney, Texas (class of 1973), where she was active in the high school band and served as drum major her senior year. She was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ, Lockney, along with her family.

Joan attended Texas Tech University and later became a licensed private investigator. She worked for many years in Lubbock as a valued legal assistant in the family law practice of Barbara Dickerson, Attorney at Law. Joan found her legal work rewarding and was gratified to be able to help families under stress. A special interest was in working toward successful adoptions.

Married for 25 years to Nick Davidson, Joan had one child, Jennifer. Joan made her home in Idalou.

Joan loved her family; she was “Ma” to her grandchildren, Ellie and Brady, on whom she doted. Jennifer recalls, “She was always there for me. She was the best homework helper for the kids, the person who brought us food, picked up our groceries, Clifton’s shop helper while he was working on dirt bikes, and even a marriage counselor at times.” Joan had a special affection for Basset Hounds and Dachshunds.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Davidson O’Neal (Clifton); grandchildren, Ellie and Brady O’Neal of Idalou; and brother, Ben Richard King (Vicki) of Cedar Park; and many other extended family and friends.
