FLOYDADA, TX – After 32 years in the classroom, one teacher has decided to move from working with children to working with inmates.
Patricia Ivy was born in Plainview but raised in Kansas before returning back to her roots on the South Plains to attend college.
She graduated from Texas Tech in 1995 and began teaching in Lubbock. For over 25 years, Ivy taught Kindergarten, but seven years ago, she had the opportunity to expand her horizons with Floydada Collegiate ISD.
While all of her time has been at A.B. Duncan Elementary, she spent one year in the 2nd-grade classroom, three in Kindergarten, and now the past three in Pre-K.
Though she is retiring from the classroom at the end of this semester, Ivy will not be sitting still as she’s “hoping to spend more time on our ministry.” The ministry that she’ll focus on is prison ministry, a passion she shares with her husband.
Don’t worry about her becoming a workaholic in retirement because she’s also made it clear that there needs to be some time to travel and probably the most important job, “spending more time with grandchildren and children.”
Congratulations, Mrs. Ivy!
