Young Floydada Ballers Battled in Hub Court Tournament

LUBBOCK, TX – A Floydada 5th and 6th-grade boys basketball team competed in the Hub Court Basketball Tournament over the weekend with teams from Dimmitt, Bovina, Borden County, Texico, Olton, Slaton, and Abernathy.

With games starting on Friday, the Floydada team would compete in eight games throughout the weekend.

The Floydada team, a team that has been playing together since the 1st and 2nd grades, would lose their first game to Dimmitt, sending them to the losers bracket on Friday.

After winning five games in the loser’s bracket, Floydada was matched up against Abernathy in the loser’s bracket final for a chance to go to the championship game.

Abernathy had a ten-point lead with 1:44 left in the game; however, Floydada was able to battle back and secure their spot in the championship game against Dimmitt.

Floydada would fall to Dimmitt in the championship game, giving Floydada a second-place finish.
