ABILENE, TX – Two Floyd County powerlifters advanced to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s State competition on Saturday.
Lockney’s Rudy Jiminez competed in the 242-pound weight class and finished in seventh place, just 160 pounds from first place with 1440 pounds. MarcAnthony Gonzales from Whitewright took gold with 1600 pounds.
In the 220-pound weight class, Armando Cruz from Floydada took ninth place with 1455 pounds. He ended the meet tied for second in the benchpress (385 lbs) but eventually fell to the state champion Jon Mychael Kirkland from Rocksprings, who finished with 1585 pounds.
