LUBBOCK, TX – Some people will have stories written about their life, others might have a book, some even a movie, but only a few have a song composed in their honor.

Last weekend at the Region 16 All-Region Band concert, the high school honor band performed the “Mr. Region March” to honor former Floydada band director John Odom.

The Region commissioned William Owens to write the march to honor Odom and his years of service as the regional coordinator.

Though Odom, who retired a few years ago, has spent most of his time in Floydada, he also taught in Miami and Memphis, Texas.

He and his wife, Robbie, raised three children as Whirlwinds. Today they are contributing back to their communities as well: Patrick (Eastland), Nicole (Brenham), and Brian (Magnolia).
