QUITAQUE, TX – Across the state, Texas Parks and Wildlife are starting the new year with a unique opportunity: First Day Hikes.
Locally, the event will be held at Caprock Canyons State Park on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
The New Year’s Day event will feature a moderate hike on the Upper South Prong trail beginning at 11:00 am and will cover approximately 1.5 miles round trip, taking about 90 minutes. Meet at the Upper South Prong trailhead.
The event is free with a paid park entrance fee, but you are reminded to dress for the weather and bring water.
First Day hikes across the state celebrate 100 years of Texas State Parks in 2023 and vary from short and leisurely nature walks on forested trails, boardwalk strolls through wetlands, or to the beach or climbs into the mountains of the Chihuahuan Desert.
