Whirlwinds Fall to Mustangs in Final District Game

OLTON, TX – Friday nights district matchup between Floydada and Olton would determine who goes into the postseason as the second seed.

The Whirlwinds came out scoring first thanks to an 18-yard touchdown run from Andres Mendoza, making it 7-0.

With 6:36 left in the second quarter, Mendoza gives the Winds the lead again at 14-6 after a 69-yard touchdown run.

Mendoza gets the hat-trick of touchdowns after a 59-yard run giving the Whirlwinds a 21-12 lead with 2:22 left in the second quarter.

Olton scored 27 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters until Floydada’s Ty Henderson found Saul Reyes for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 4:35 left in the game.

The Mustangs would run out the clock and claim victory over Floydada and also secure the second position in the district, placing the Winds in third.

Floydada’s quarterback Ty Henderson finished the night 10-19 on passing attempts with 122 yards and 1 touchdown.

Runningback Andres Mendoza had 20 carries for 241 yards and 3 touchdowns.
