FLOYDADA, TX – For the past four and a half years, Nathan and Ashley Adams have served in the ministry at First Baptist Church, but that chapter of their lives will close in two weeks.
Nathan, a product of Dublin High School, is working on completing his Doctorate of Ministry at Truett Seminary and has accepted the position as Senior Pastor at FBC Hereford, effective November 1, 2022.
He comes from a long line of ministers, including his grandfather (Tom Adams, former pastor at Pendleton Baptist Church) and his father (Ridge Adams, former pastor at Memorial Baptist Church in Temple, TX).
“From two freshly graduated seminary students in Central Texas,” Nathan explains, “God brought Ashley and me to an unfamiliar place that has become a cherished space known as the pumpkin capital in Floydada. Our time here truly has been a whirlwind of events as our family has grown, not just with our children, but also with the many individuals who have captured our hearts and who we now consider family”.
The Adams family will leave as a family of four, including Raelyn (age 3) and Nash (age 2), but will soon become five as Ashley is expecting their third child in early March.
Though the FBC Floydada community will miss the young couple, the community can always remember that before they moved to Floydada, the Admas knew nothing about cotton harvesting.
“One of the first Sundays we were here, some of the ladies at church talked about why their husbands were not with them that morning,” he explains.
“We could not understand why these men were absent from church because they were out ‘stripping.’ This was an opportunity for Ashley and me to learn a little more about farming terminology, but it took us a while to adjust to hearing the terms ‘stripping’ and ‘strippers’ when talking about the cotton harvest. Let’s just say that the ride home that day made for some very interesting discussion between us.”
