CROSBYTON – A late field goal followed by a safety gave the Lockney Longhorns the victory Friday night in their district opener over the Crosbyton Chiefs.
The scoring started in the first with a Dyllan Thiebaud quarterback keeper. They scored a second touchdown with just over two minutes in the half, along with a two-point conversion to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
Lockney next scored with :01 left in the third to tie the game at 21-all, and that’s where it remained until :08 left at the end of the fourth when Aven Sanchez hit a 23-yard field goal to give the Longhorns a 3-point lead. A safety on Crosbyton’s next possession gave the Longhorns a 5-point lead and the 26-21 victory.
The Longhorns ended the night with 277 yards of total offense, two rushing and one passing touchdowns and one interception.
Up next, the Longhorns welcome the Sudan Hornets to Mitchell-Zimmerman Stadium next Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
