FLOYD COUNTY – As Floyd County’s two football teams head toward their third week of the season, both coaches are preaching discipline.
“We’ve got to work on execution,” Longhorns Coach Jonathan Thiebaud said following Friday night’s Floyd County Championship loss. “One thing would go right for us, then one thing would not be executed.”
While Whirlwinds Coach J.R. Compton was pleased with his team’s score at the end of the night, he too was frustrated with parts of the evening. “Offensively, after our first drive we were blowing out our toe,” Compton said. “The defense really kept us in the game.”

Compton told his players to enjoy the 46-6 victory, but it was back to work Monday as the team gets ready to face the Smyer Bobcats in a Homecoming matchup. He preached the need to for his 2-0 team to work on fundamentals. “Extra points are like free throws in basketball. By the time we get to district we’ve got to have every extra point we can muster up.”
Thiebaud’s team will be road warriors as they head to Plains on Friday night to face a Cowboys team that lost to Hale Center last week. Despite their second straight loss, the Longhorns were able to get at least one monkey off their back Friday by finding the end zone to start the 4th quarter. “It was nice to finally get some points. When you execute things, things tend to work out for the best.”
Both games kick off Friday at 7:00 p.m., you can listen to either stream right here at FloydCountyRecord.com. The Whirlwinds will also broadcast on 106.1 FLiP FM.
