FLOYDADA – It’s a gift of protection and of civic pride. On Wednesday Dr. Thomas Stewart and the staff of Floydada Family Dentistry gave 56 Whirlwind football players new custom mouthpieces.

The roughly $100 mouthpieces, Floydada green and adorned with the word “Winds” on the front, were given by Dr. Stewart and his staff to keep players safe. “I’ve seen so many former players come in with broken teeth,” Dr. Stewart said while working with the players. “It’s doesn’t just have a trauma aspect, it’s a confidence issue. We don’t want these guys to have to endure that.”

Head Coach J.R. Compton was appreciative for Dr. Stewart’s generosity. “From a financial perspective we thank him, but using his business to help the team tells us how much of a Whirlwind supporter he is.”

The first set of players will be able to use their new mouthpieces Thursday night as the Junior Varsity Whirlwinds take on the Lockney Longhorn JV team.
