LOCKNEY – Coach Jonathan Thiebaud is ready to get the season started. The first-year head coach is excited for Friday night’s game against the Seagraves Eagles at Mitchell-Zimmerman Stadium, but he’s also noticed the pressure that’s been placed on his shoulders… pressure that *he* has put on himself. “I’ve always been hard on myself,” Thiebaud admits, but says being head coach puts him in more of a spotlight than when he was the defensive coordinator.
Thiebaud says he expects a tough, physical Eagles team to show up on Friday. “They’ll run the football at us,” he said of their offense, and says on defense they’re a team that can ‘run misdirection’ in trying to distract Lockney’s offensive side. “We’re going to have to control the line of scrimmage and be disciplined with our eyes.”
As for expectations on what he hopes for the Longhorns, he knows that winning brings a sense of calm to the start of the school year, and he wants that for his boys. “Everything goes smooth if we’re winning,” adding that attitude spills over into the community as well. He’s also hoping for a great home-field advantage. “I’d like to see the stadium packed. I love it when the stadium is rocking.”
The Longhorns kick off Friday night at 7. If you can’t make it to the game you can listen live right here on the Floyd County Record. Tucker Lowrance will have the call each week during the season at FloydCountyRecord.com/LIVE – just search for the Lockney/KFLP HD-2 feed.
