POST – Over the past decade it has not been uncommon for elite Texas High School athletes to graduate at mid-term so they can start working out with their future college team in the spring. What is unique is when an athlete skips his senior season altogether, like Isaiah Crawford of Post has decided to do.
Crawford is a specimen of an athlete at 6’4” tall and weights approximately 225-pounds. This size is exceptional, especially in class 2A. A 4-star recruit, Crawford originally committed to Baylor after a Sophomore season that saw the Bold Gold make the 2020 UIL 2A State Championship. He then switched to Texas Tech when Joey McGuire took over the Red Raiders football program.
Coming into the 2022 season, Crawford was the only D-1 commit that the Floydada Whirlwinds would face this fall. Now that will not happen since Crawford does not want a knee injury to escalate to a possible ACL surgery.
Crawford gave a statement to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal about his decision. “I will be graduating early to get (to Tech) early and get used to things and a routine. I will not be playing (at Post) due to injury and not wanting to risk re-tearing my ACL.”
Coming into the season Crawford was projected to be one of the Bold Gold’s top running backs and linebackers.
