LISTEN: We spoke with the Futures on Friday morning in Abilene
ABILENE – The Floydada Futures ran into a strong Waco Midway team on Thursday in the semifinals of Texas West State 12U Little League Tournament and lost 12-0 at Lake Kirby Park.
The Futures are now 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament and will face Alice for a second time on Friday at 6pm. Floydada beat Alice 12-6 on Wednesday. Alice came back on Thursday to eliminate San Antonio 5-Diamonds 10-5.
Midway ISD is a 6A school with a high school enrollment of 2,400 and an overall school district of more than 8,000 students. Midway is 2-0 in the Texas West tournament with consecutive 12-0 wins over San Antonio 5-Diamonds and Floydada.
Wednesday when the Futures defeated Alice (4A school district), it was the first time a Floydada team has won a game in the Texas West State tournament in four trips. Floydada has had a 10U team advance to Texas West in 2013 and 2019, a 14U team in 2021 and now the 12U team in 2022. This 12U team is pretty much the same players that played at Texas West in 2019.
The Futures are 7-1 in Little League playoff games this summer after winning the District 38 and Section 1 championships.
