ABILENE – Third time was the charm for the Floydada Futures 12U softball team by winning their first round game against Alice 12-6 on Wednesday night at the Texas West State Little League Tournament played at beautiful Lake Kirby Park, home of the Abilene Wylie Little League.
The Futures went 0-2 at Texas West in 2019 when playing as 10U. So the victory on Wednesday was extra sweet. The Futures improve to 8-0 in the 2022 Little League softball playoffs after winning the District 38 and Section 1 championships to return to the prestigious Texas West tournament.
Alice is 4A school district located 50-miles west of Corpus Christi in South Texas. Floydada will now take on Waco Midway in a state semifinal matchup at 8pm Thursday. Midway shutout San Antonio 5-Diamonds by a 12-0 score on Wednesday in the opening round. Midway is a 6A school district from Central Texas.
The winner of the Floydada – Waco Midway game will advance to the Texas West championship game on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The loser will play in an elimination game on Friday at 8pm compete for a position in the tourney finals on Saturday.
