FLOYD COUNTY, TX – Just how affordable is it to live in Floyd County?
A recent study from SmartAsset has assessed the counties in the state with the lowest tax burdens. The study analyzed each county’s taxes for income, sales, property, and fuel to determine which counties had the lowest overall tax burden.
Eight of the top ten counties are west of I-35, with three of the top five on the South Plains.
Both Dickens and Motley counties fell within the top ten based on low property and sales tax demands, but Floyd County was 17th in the state and 30th nationwide.
Kenedy County on the Gulf Coast tops the list of lowest tax burdens. The county seat is Sarita, but the historic King Ranch covers most of the landmass. It also helps that the population of Kenedy County is 350 people, which makes it the third-least populous county in Texas and fourth in the entire United States.
Ward County is home to Monahans and is second on the list of lowest tax burdens. Borden County is third, followed by King and Cochran counties rounding out the top five.
On the other end of the spectrum, three of the most expensive counties, based on tax burdens, are located in West Texas: Lubbock (218), Randall (230), and Midland (232). Collin County, in the metroplex, takes the cake based on high sales and property taxes as the most expensive county in the state.
