FLOYDADA – People who walk along 2nd street, East Houston and West Missouri streets as well as the ‘Ralls Highway’ in Floydada are going to notice some major changes coming to the sidewalks this year.
The sidewalks for those roads, better known as US Highway 70, US Highway 62 and Farm to Market 784 are going to be upgraded under a TxDOT plan to bring the walking paths and ramps in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.
The Floydada City Council was recently given a preview of the project, with engineer Heath Bozeman from TxDOT’s Plainview office promising “The least amount of inconvenience possible,” for both car and foot traffic.
Construction will be done by Ti-Zack Concrete, a contractor from Minnesota currently finishing up a similar project in Tulia. Due to the nature of the work and its proximity to the roadway, crews will have to close lanes at different times. Bozeman promises not all of the road will be impacted. “If we don’t have pedestrian use out there, we don’t intend to put it (new sidewalk) out,” he told the council.
The project is slated to begin in July, with completion set for December or January depending on a number of factors. Bozeman told the council the city would be given a 10-day notice of when work would begin.
