Velma Sue "Sudy" Dempsey Cochran (Floydada)
Velma Sue (Sudy) Dempsey Cochran, 69, of Floydada, TX, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Thursday, May 19, 2022. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2022, at City Park Church Of Christ in Floydada. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.
Sudy was born on February 22, 1953, to Bobby Sue and Henry Lloyd Dempsey in Perryton, TX. After graduation from Happy High, she went on to study cosmetology. After obtaining her cosmetology license, she started her first job in Tucumcari, NM, where she did hair for several years. Later, she moved to Floydada and start her 30-year career at Floydada Housing Authority.
Sudy did not know a stranger and would give the shirt off of her back to anyone in need. In 1986 she started the Christmas meal program in Floydada, Tx that grew to serve multiple counties, towns, and families. She later founded Reflections of Love with a good friend who also grew to serve many during the Holidays. Sudy was loved by many! She was generous, kind, and understanding. In 2014, Sudy retired and spent her time traveling with friends and family to her favorite casino and enjoying rerun episodes of Golden Girls. Sudy also enjoyed attending sporting events to watch her grandkids, nieces, and nephews.
Sudy is preceded in death by her Father Henry Lloyd Dempsey (Jack) and a brother Joe Bill Dempsey. She is survived by her Mother Bobby Sue Dempsey, 2 sisters, Larae Whitlow and Darla Forney (Ross Forney), 2 brothers Bobby Jack Dempsey (Kathy Dempsey), and Harold Dempsey (Cindy Dempsey), and 15 nieces and nephews.
Sudy also leaves behind three daughters Kamirae LaJo Chance; Misti Delle, and husband David Carrillo; and Bambi and husband Christopher Sansom.
Munner will remain in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Kylen (Avacii & Gamble), Mason, Kierra, Madison, Shi, Parker, Payton, McKenna, and Logan.
