Sammy Mercado (Ruidoso)
Samuel “Sammy” Mercado, age 66, of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and formerly of Floydada, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at his home in Floydada. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022, in the chapel of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Sammy was born in Mission, Texas on March 4, 1956, to the late Jesus and Estefana Mercado. He was the loving husband of Olivia (Martinez) Mercado with whom they shared 47 years of marriage. A devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend to many. He best demonstrated his commitment and love to his family by providing stability, safety, strength, and direction. Sam was a rare breed, he could fix or build anything, his favorite music was Tejano music which consoled him in his final days and he loved the Dallas Cowboys. Sammy had a strong love for baseball. He spent countless hours volunteering in sports activities with his children. He taught his children and now grandchildren the love of sports and especially 4-H activities. Upon retirement, from FISD after 30 years. Sammy and Olivia moved to their second home in Ruidoso. He met many new friends and learned all about his new home, a place he grew to love. Sam enjoyed the company of his family and friends and enjoyed showing them all Ruidoso had to offer, he was a wonderful tour guide.
He is survived by his wife, Olivia; son, Michael Mercado, and wife, Priscilla, and their children, Madilyn and Noah, all of Amarillo, Texas and his daughter, Resa Mercado, and her daughter Amelia of Ruidoso, New Mexico; brother, Ricky; his sisters; Alicia, Estella, Adela, Esther, he leaves behind a loving community of family and friends who will carry on his memory.
The family is deeply touched by and grateful for the tremendous love and support are given to them during this time. While there are too many to thank specifically, please know that you are each treasured and held close to our hearts.
