FLOYD COUNTY – Fans of the Floydada Lady Winds softball team and the Lockney Longhorns baseball team were treated to exciting journeys deep into the playoffs during the month of May.

The Lady Winds (32-5-1) season ended in the Regional Semifinals to the Stamford Lady Bulldogs in a pair of games in Big Spring over the weekend. The Longhorns (20-9) season was stopped in the Regional Quarterfinals by the Clarendon Broncos in their best-of-three series in Amarillo Saturday afternoon.

Floydada’s softball playoff march included a 6-2 record in their four series played, while Lockney’s baseball trek finished 5-2 in their trio of series. Both teams were senior laden squads that utilized their experience to the maximum.

Lockney was led by freshman pitcher Dyllan Thiebaud; senior slugger Nathan Ceniceros (LF); multi-position playmaker Austin Rodriguez (SS, catcher, pitcher, 3B); a pair of
experienced senior hurlers in Josh Jimenez (also 3B) and Pablo Morales (also 1B); along with many
contributions from seniors Morris Salas (RF, 2B), Damion Gonzales (2B), Malaki Alvis (RF, 1B); and
freshman Xavier Jimenez (CF). The Longhorns were a gritty grind-it-out squad that included a deep
pitching staff.

The Lady Winds featured game-changing senior pitcher Erin Trevino (30-wins); an explosive lineup
and defensive squad with seniors Marissa Obregon (catcher), Kailee Sanchez (2B), Clari Delafuente
(SS), and Celese Wickware (3B); junior outfielders Kaley Garza (RF) and Dani Zavala (LF); sophomores Carissa Fernandez (CF) and Analise Perez (1B). Floydada was built around speed with an
aggressive attacking philosophy.

The majority of the team played travel ball with the Diamond Dusters for approximately nine summers, starting as 7-year-olds. The community sensed something special could happen to these girls in high school.

These two teams will be remembered for their successful playoff accomplishments.
