FLOYDADA – As the price of fuel continues to rise, the costs are having to be made up elsewhere. On Tuesday the Floydada City Council agreed to raise the price of trash collection for residents and businesses to offset the increased costs they have incurred from South Plains Waste Service.
Each resident will see a $3.50 increase in their monthly bill. Businesses that have their trash collected twice a week will see a $3.75 increase. The few locations where trash is collected three times a week will pay $4.
The council also renewed the city’s curfew for minors, requiring anyone under 18 not under their parents’ supervision to be off the street by 11:00 p.m. during the week and midnight on weekends. Exceptions are made for students leaving work or a school activity. The policy is renewed on a three-year basis.
Three members of the council were also sworn in for their new term Tuesday evening. Gabe De La Fuente, Gail DuBois and Bettye King took their oath of office collectively from Mayor Bobby Gilliland. Fellow recently re-elected council member Brian Martin was not at Tuesday’s meeting. Following the swearing in De La Fuente was reappointed Mayor Pro Tem for another one-year term.
