ACUFF – Floydada senior pitcher Erin Trevino was as dominating as she has ever been by hurling 24-strikeouts and a pair of one-hitters as the Lady Winds won 10-0 and 20-0 over the Post Bold Gold Lady Antelopes in a doubleheader Thursday evening at Roosevelt’s Lady Eagle Field.
Trevino got off to a great start in Game 1 by striking out the side in the first inning, and repeated the feat in the 4th inning. “Those three strikeouts at the start gave me confidence and it just seemed to carry through the two games. My team played very good defense and were aggressive on offense. They were team wins,” expressed Trevino.
The results of the two wins gave Trevino her 50th win over the past two years, put her at 208-strikeouts for the season, and she reached a significant milestone of 500-K’s for her high school career with still more games to play.
The top three of Floydada’s batting lineup was very productive in Game 1 with Clari Delafuenete going 3-4 (all singles) and scored three runs; Marissa Obregon slapped a trio of doubles that drove in three runs plus she scored twice; while Carissa Fernandez went 4-4 (all singles) and crossed home plate three times.
Kailee Garza hit a game ending single in the bottom of sixth frame that brought in two runs the first game by the mercy rule to make the final score 10-0. Post played some good defense to challenge the Lady Winds through five innings by trailing 5-0. Floydada then erupted for five runs to put the game away in the sixth.
In the nightcap, Floydada picked up where they left off in the previous game. The Lady Winds batted through their lineup in all of the first four innings. The Lady Winds got 10-hits, plus received 12-walks and three hit batters by a pitch. Three Lady Winds hit a double – Delafuente, Kailee Sanchez and Tatum Glasscock. Kirsten Pyle scored a game high four runs followed by Garza with three.
The Lady Winds will now face the Sunray Lady Cats, who beat West Texas High School to advance to the Area round. The Lady Winds are the 3-2A Champions, while Sunray is the number three seed out of 1-2A behind Sanford-Fritch and Clarendon. Sunray blanked Memphis 18-0 on Thursday in a Bi-District game at Amarillo River Road.
The Lady Winds and Lady Cats will face off on Friday, May 6 in Amarillo at Tascosa High School’s Rebel Softball Field. Game 1 will be at 4:00 p.m. with game 2 to immediately follow. If necessary, Game 3 will be on Saturday, May 7 at noon. Tickets will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.
Tascosa’s Rebel Field is located at 3499 Rebel Road in Amarillo, off S. Julian Blvd. near Interstate 40.
