CANYON – West Texas A&M University will hold its biggest UIL Region 1-2A spring athletic competition this Friday and Saturday at the WT Track and Field Complex on campus.
Floydada and Lockney will be we represented at the Region 1-2A that starts on Friday at 9:45 a.m.
Floydada boys will have two relays and four individuals competing; Floydada girls have one relay and three individuals; Lockney girls have five individuals; and there is one Lockney boy individual.
Whirlwind junior Jayson Cooper will be the most active local athlete by competing in four events – long jump, triple jump, 100 meters dash and running a leg on the 800 relay. According to Athletic Net, a computer service used by high school and collegiate track and field meets, Cooper has the best qualifying jump in the long jump, which makes him a strong candidate to advance to the UIL State and Track and Field Championships in Austin. Cooper leaped 21’10.75” in the Area Meet at Charles Tyer Stadium two weeks ago.

Qualifiers who advanced from the running Pre-Lims on Friday
The top two finishers in each event will advance to the UIL Track and Field Championships at Mike Meyer Stadium on the University of Texas campus. Class 2A athletes will compete on Friday, May 13. There will be one at-large competitor per event with the best performance of the third place finishers from all four regions in Texas.
