FLOYDADA – Wednesday morning was a special time for the Floydada Collegiate High School girls softball program with a pair of Lady Winds signing national letters of intent to play at the next level in college.

Second baseman Kailee Sanchez signed with the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen in Borger, and catcher Marissa Obregon inked with the Northland College Lumber Jills in Ashland, Wisconsin. Northland College is a NCAA Division 3 college, while Frank Phillips is a junior college.

Lady Winds softball coach Armando Morales told the high school student body “Kailee and Marissa have been integral parts of our softball program throughout their high school career. This is happening today because they worked hard to better themselves, and they helped make the team better.”

Both of the players have grown up playing softball starting with the Diamond Dusters when they were age seven.

Sanchez has been a very steady player at second base with a .941 fielding percentage this season.
Her batting average is at .356 with 21-hits and 16-RBI.

Obregon has a .614 batting average with 54-hits and 40-RBI. Her fielding percentage behind the plate is .991. Obregon is a challenging player to Floydada opponents with her throwing ability to the bases.

Sanchez and Obregon are a big part of Floydada repeating as the District 3-2A Softball Champions. The Lady Winds are taking a 26-3-1 record into the Bi-District playoffs on Thursday to start a best-of-three series with the Post Lady Antelopes at Lubbock Roosevelt’s Lady Eagles Field.
Game 1 will be at 5:00 p.m., immediately followed by Game 2.

If necessary, Game 3 will be on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
