LOCKNEY – Freshman Dyllan Thiebuad came up big again on Saturday, this time a one hitter that led the Longhorns (14-6, 7-3) to a playoff clinching 10-1 win over the Post Bold Gold Antelopes.
The wins gave Lockney a sweep of the district series with Post after a nail-biter on Tuesday by a 10-9 score. Lockney is assured of at a least a number three seed out of 3-2A.
The Longhorns came out of the gates strong in the bottom of the first inning by scoring six runs highlighted by RBI doubles by Josh Jimenez and Thiebaud, a run producing single by Pablo Morales and triple by Austin Rodriguez. Lockney went to score a pair of runs in each the second and seventh innings.
The Longhorns outhit Post 10-1 for the game. Morales finished the day 3-4 at the plate and scored three runs, Thiebaud was 3-4 with two RBI plus a run. Josh Jimenez was 2-4 with a pair of runs and RBI.
Thiebaud ended up throwing a season high 13-strikeouts and improved his pitching record to 7-2.
Lockney will now go into an important regular season-ending series against the Ralls Jackrabbits (14-8, 9-1). If Lockney can take both games, the Longhorns would move up to the number two seed. If Ralls sweeps the series, the Jackrabbits could jump into a first place tie with New Deal.
