FLOYDADA – The Number 3 ranked Floydada Lady Winds put an exclamation mark on their 2022 season by getting a school record 26th season win and went through District 3-2A unscathed (12-0) with a 15-2 win over the Ralls Lady Jackrabbits on a windy Friday evening at Lady Winds Field. Floydada swept the regular season finale series after shutting down the Lady Jackrabbits 19-3 on Tuesday.
The Lady Winds had two big innings of scoring six runs in each the first and fourth innings. Floydada had five players slap doubles – Celese Wickware, Analise Perez, Kailee Sanchez, Clari Delafuente and Dani Zavala. Delafuente had another productive night in the leadoff position by going 3-4 at the plate and score three runs.
Ralls had a trio of doubles by Cadence Yocum, Leslie Torres and Rhilynn Elliott. The Lady Winds outhit the Lady Jackrabbits 11-4.
Erin Trevino improved her pitching record to 24-1 by allowing three runs on four hits and recorded five strikeouts. She now has 177-K’s on the season.
The Lady Winds previous season wins high was 2021 with a record of 25-2-1. The 2022 team is still playing and has 26-victories. In 2019, Floydada advanced the furtherest in the playoff bracket to the Region 1 Semifinals with a record of 22-8.
Floydada will get ready for the 2A playoffs by hosting District 2-3A Champion Idalou Lady Wildcats (19-6) on Tuesday at Lady Winds Field. This could be a great pitching duel between Trevino and Belle Arguello, two of the best small school pitchers across the Panhandle-South Plains.
The Lady Winds will then take on the Post Lady Antelopes in a best-of-three Bi-District series starting Thursday at Lady Eagle Field at Roosevelt. The series will start with a double-header at 5:00 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
