LUBBOCK – Four Floydada Collegiate High School boys are ready to break nearly a two decade drought of no high school golf when they compete in the New Home Invitational on Monday at the Reese Golf Center northwest of Lubbock.

The Whirlwinds will field a unique team of a player from each class. The quartet is made up of senior Trace Glasscock, junior Brett Brittain, sophomore Reese Hinsley and freshman Brae Ballesteros. With this kind of roster, hopefully Floydada will be able to field more golf teams in the years to come. Regardless, these players are being a part of reviving a sport that Floydada has had success in the 1990’s and earlier.
The tournament field is expected to have teams and individual players from New Home, Tahoka, Kress and Floydada. The Whirlwinds have been working out for approximately a month at the Floydada Country Club under the direction of coach Adam Zepeda.
This will be the only invitational that the Whirlwinds will play in, before taking part in the District Tournament on April 4 at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock. If Floydada can advance out of district, they would get to play in the Region 1 tourney at Palo Duro Golf Creek Course in Canyon on April 18-19.
