FLOYDADA – The Hale Center Owls regained some self-respect with six runs in the final two at-bats to knock off the Floydada Whirlwinds 11-7 at Watson Field on Saturday afternoon. The score in game 2 of the weekly series is not the only thing that flip-flopped from the Whirlwinds convincing win 17-1 on Tuesday, but the weather was a total turn-around from a freezing 35-mph north winds on Tuesday to a rather warm 65-degrees on Saturday.
Floydada had three innings of scoring two runs in each the first, second and fourth innings to hold a 6-4 lead. Hale Center scored in six innings of the contest with the sixth frame being the most productive with four runs pushed across homeplate.
Hale Center pitcher Andrew Ramirez made a big impact in the game by taking the win the mound, and he produced three RBI with a triple and a single while batting. Jerry Lopez and Brayden Jenkins also had timely hits for the Owls with five RBI between them.
Andres Mendoza, Izaiah Alverado and Saul Reyes had two hits apiece to lead the Whirlwinds offense.
Floydada will now take on the Lockney Longhorns in the next weekly home-home district series. The Longhorns will be hungry for a win after being sweep by district leader New Deal this past week. Tuesday’s game will be at Watson Field in Floydada with a 5pm start, and switch to Longhorn Field on Saturday with a mid-day contest beginning at 11am. 106.1 Flip FM will have the broadcast of both games of the Floyd County rivals.
