NEW DEAL – In game 1 of the 3-2A baseball series on Tuesday, Lockney gave New Deal a scare before falling 10-7. On Saturday in game two, New Deal took care of business early with five runs in the opening frame and six more runs in the second inning to cruise to a 17-3 win.
Lockney freshman pitcher Dyllan Thiebaud had been impressive in his previous starts, but the inspired Lions got to the young pitcher early. New Deal slapped 13-hits combined against Thiebaud and reliever Austin Rodriguez. New Deal flexed some power including a homerun by Anthony Cantu, a pair of triples by Colby Henderson and Bron Fitzgerald, two doubles by Harley Patterson and Fitzgerald. The Lions lineup had a big day similar to what they did numerous times in 2021 when marching to the 2A State Championship.
Nathan Ceniceros provided a spark for the Longhorns with a solo homerun in the fifth inning. Rodriguez went 2-3 at the plate and scored a run.
