NEW DEAL – The Lockney Lady Horns started the season with a 4-1 record, but then fell on hard times with a five game losing skid. The Lady Horns got a much needed win and did it over a quality opponent in surprising the New Deal Lady Lions 12-8 on the road Saturday. Lockney played much better than the l4-runs loss they suffered against New Deal on Tuesday.
“We were short handed with a pair of starters and two substitutes not available. We were very excited to get this one,” said Lockney coach Trey Bale.
Annalicia Hernandez got things off to a positive start with a three run homerun in the first inning. The scoring blast apparently instilled confidence in the Lockney dugout that carried on throughout the game.
Then Eddeny Chavira came on and pitched very well for the Lady Horns. This was the first district win for Lockney in softball this season.
Lockney (5-6, 1-3) will now play the Floydada Lady Winds in their next weekly series. Game 1 will be Tuesday at Lady Winds Field, and then Game 2 on Saturday at the Lady Horns Field.
