MUNCY – Multiple fire departments, led by Lockney and Floydada, spent Sunday afternoon working a large grass fire along U.S. 70 at FM 786 near the Floyd County Friends Unity Center.
An estimated 400 acres were burned in the fire that started just south of FM 786 and spread to the northeast.
The fire was first spotted just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Winds in the region were reported as high as 46 miles per hour.
There were no serious injuries or homes damaged in the fire. An abandoned structure was damaged.
Smoke from the fire became visible on NWS weather radar Sunday afternoon.

As of 5:30 p.m. traffic on Highway 70 reopened to traffic.

In addition to the departments, fire crews credit multiple farmers for bringing their water tanks to assist with gaining control over the blaze.
In addition to traffic being blocked, Suddenlink cable and internet service in Floydada was distrupted due to the fire. As of 7:00 p.m. Suddenlink did not have an estimated time service would be restored.
