Lady Winds win decisive district debut over New Deal

FLOYDADA – The Floydada Lady Winds began defense of the District 3-2A softball title they won last season with a sold 14-3 win over the New Deal Lady Lions on Tuesday afternoon.

Floydada (15-2-1) put curved numbers on the scoreboard with three runs in the first and fourth innings, plus four each in the second and third frames.

Freshman Soriah Wickware became the first varsity player to hit one out the park at the new Lady Wind Field with a solo home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning. Floydada produced three other extra base hits with doubles by Analise Perez, Carissa Fernandez, and Clari Delafuente. Perez had a game high four RBI, and Delafuente had a team leading four runs scored.

Senior Erin Trevino picked up her 14th pitching win by allowing three runs on three hits and recorded 10-strikeouts to raise her season total to 93-K’s.

New Deal’s offense had a triple by Ghene Vasquez, and a double by McKenna Booth.
