TULIA – Baseball can produce strange results, and the Lockney Longhorns 2-1 loss to the Amarillo San Jacinto Christian Patriots is about as unique as it gets. It was a cold Thursday night and not the best playing conditions for a baseball game.
San Jacinto took advantage of four walks and two wild pitches by Lockney senior Pablo Morales to score a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The Patriots also had a stolen base and capitalized on two errors by the Longhorns in the unfortunate inning.
Morales then settled in and threw 11-strikeouts for the game while allowing no-hits. Morales surrendered a total of seven walks in the season debut. Morales also scored Lockney’s lone run in the first inning by slapping a double to left field, advancing to third on a San Jacinto error and scored on a wild pitch.
Lockney will play another night game on Saturday against the Idalou Wildcats in the Tulia Tourney.
