FLOYDADA – The Floydada Lady Winds made a positive debut on the new Lady Winds Field on Whirlwind Way on a windy Monday afternoon by shutting out the Muleshoe Lady Mules 12-0. Floydada utilized a one-two punch of shutout pitching from seniors Erin Trevino and Clari Delafuente plus an offense that smacked 13-hits and stole nine bases.
“It was exciting to play on the new turf and stadium,” explained Trevino, who picked up her sixth win of the season in the pitching circle.
“I am so glad to be back to playing, and this was a special day,” reiterated Delafuente who has been out of athletics for 12-months due a knee injury she suffered on the last basketball game of her junior year.
The Lady Winds did not let the 29-mph southwest winds distract them in pushing across seven runs in the first inning highlighted by a two RBI triple to right-centerfield by sophomore Analise Perez.
“This was a very nice win today. We are off to a good start for the season (6-0). We will face some really tough competition this weekend in the Archer County Classic against several teams that have pitchers who can throw in the 60’s (mph),” said a smiling assistant coach Bethany Morales. Bethany is the daughter of Floydada head softball coach Armando Morales who is in his 13th year of leading the Lady Winds program.
