A.B. Duncan Elementary School in Floydada (Alex Driggars/Floyd County Record)
FLOYDADA – From groceries to government, nearly everything in our lives have been disrupted in the past two years, and that certainly includes education.
Last Thursday night Floydada Collegiate ISD’s board heard from Dr. Gilbert Trevino on how the district fared in recent data released from the state in the form of the Texas Education Agency’s Annual Performance Report.
The report, commonly called the TAPR, has traditionally been a letter grade given to a district, but with 2020-2021 officially given ‘disaster’ status statewide, no grade was assigned. That doesn’t mean there weren’t numbers to look at, and as Dr. Trevino told the board “We’re a little below the state and region, but we are still above where we were previously.”
The report identifies areas of growth in mathematics and science, but shows deficiencies in “ELAR” or English, Language Arts & Reading. Board members Eric Smith asked A.B. Duncan principal Monica Smith and secondary campus principal Dara Ware about their thoughts on the reports. “We’ve got some areas we need to work on,” admitted Ware, with Duncan’s Smith adding they are “pleased the data is looking up.”
Both admitted they are working with teachers on helping students. “It all ties back to performance in the classroom.”
The report was approved and adopted into the minutes unanimously by the board.
