LUBBOCK – The Floydada Lady Winds will take on the Olton Fillies for the second time this season, but this one has higher stakes than the November 12 meeting that Olton won by four points at Whirlwind Gym in the third game of the season.

Floydada (19-8) is the No. 2 seed out of district 4-2A and Co-Champs with the Hale Center Lady Owls. Olton (12-17) is the No. 3 seed of 3-2A behind Farwell and Vega.

The first time these two met Floydada did not have sophomore point guard Zay Santos in their line-up. Santos has been a key player for the Lady Winds as a ball-handler and facilitator to her taller teammates in the paint. Santos scores approximately 8.5-points per game and traditionally excels when the game is in jeopardy with lane penetrations and passing to an open teammate. She is also a clutch free throw shooter.

The Lady Winds leading scorer going into the playoffs is senior guard Erin Trevino averaging 11-points per game. She is Floydada’s best threat from the 3-point arc and a consistent free throw shooter. Trevino is an experienced competitor and a valuable leader.

Floydada has been strong under the basket all season with sophomore Sierra Snowden (9-ppg),
senior Celese Wickware (8-ppg), freshman Soriah Wickware (7-ppg) and junior Lailah Burks (3-ppg).
Any given night, this quartet has potential to have a different leading rebounder.

The Lady Winds have good support from sophomore Analise Perez, plus freshmen Katelyn Rameriz and Allyson Romero to give quality minutes and depth.

Adam Zepeda is in his first year as the Floydada girls coach after three consecutive 20-win seasons with the Whirlwinds. Zepeda has won or shared a district championship the past three seasons.

This season the Lady Winds won the championship of the Whirlwind Classic, and finished second at the Tahoka Tournament when they lost in the finals to Sterling City in overtime.

Olton is team made up predominantly of juniors. Senior point guard Shaylee Leathers is their most experience player.
