LOCKNEY – This time a year ago the Vega Longhorns ended the Lockney Lady Horns season in a Bi-District playoff game in the Vega gym. This time Lockney gets another shot against Vega on their home court. Lockney has gone 12-1 this season in Longhorn Gym.

The Lady Horns (23-8) have had a very successful season which included a 12-game winning. Lockney is the No.3 seed out of district 4-2A behind co-champs Hale Center and Floydada. Vega (19-12) is the No. 2 seed from 3-2A behind Farwell.

Vega lost five seniors from last season’s Bi-District championship team. Vega is led this season by a pair of seniors in 5’7” point guard Dakota Walker and 6′ post Maci Hartsell. Walker was the 3-2A Offensive MVP in 2021, and Hartsell was an All-District player.

Lockney has been paced this season by a trio of guards that average in the double-figures scoring per game. Junior Adri Villareal (15.5-ppg) leads this three-some followed by senior Gabriella Cervantes (12.5-ppg) and junior Mariah Ascensio (10-ppg). All three are very capable 3-pointer shooters. Cervantes scored her 1,000th career point on senior night against New Deal.

The Lady Horns have been receiving good support from sophomore Adilayah Jones (6-ppg) and junior Senayda Bernal (5.5-ppg). Both Jones and Bernal have been key rebounders for Lockney this season. Lockney has used Haven Walker, Jaylin Reyes, Nadia Perez and Landri McCombs coming off of the bench.

Trey Bale is in his first year as the Lockney girls coach after switching over the boys program.
Bale has led Lockney to a 20-plus win season and won a tournament title at the Lockney Shootout.

Tip-off: 6pm on Monday at Longhorn Gym.

The winner will advance to the Area Round to play either Panhandle or West Texas-Stinnett
