RALLS – One thing is for sure, district 4-2A has provided some exciting basketball games and they don’t get much better than the Floydada Whirlwinds (21-4, 4-3) getting out of Ralls with a thrilling 71-68 win over the Jackrabbits (16-1l, 1-5) on Tuesday.
The number of times the game was tied up and lead exchanges occurred was in abundance. There was a moment when Ralls held an eight point lead in the second quarter 36-28, but the Whirlwinds closed out the first half with an impressive 13-0 run to take a 41-36 lead to halftime. Ralls would not go away on their Senior Night by outscoring Floydada by one point in each of the final two stanzas.
Ralls senior Ryno Garcia was on a tear by scoring an impressive 37-points that included eight 3-pointers from the arc. Floydada’s Abran Castillo and Braun Hobbs continually answered Garcia by scoring 20 and 19 respectively, and the duo matched him with four 3’s apiece. Ty Henderson contributed 19-points in the paint. Aiden Trevino was perfect at the free throw line (5-of-5) which was very significant for the Whirlwinds.
The Whirlwinds held onto the number two position in the district standings behind the New Deal Lions who have already claimed the district championship. The Floydada boys have one more game remaining in the regular season with Lockney next Tuesday (Feb. 15) at Longhorn Gym. That game will probably decide the number two and three playoff seeds from 4-2A.
