LOCKNEY – The No. 12 state rated New Deal Lions continued their dominance of the District 4-2A basketball race with a 65-34 win over the Lockney Longhorns at Longhorn Gym on Friday night. New Deal (21-5, 6-0) has been winning by a 25-point average margin in district action. With still two games to play in the regular season, the Lions have already won the league championship.
New Deal outscored Lockney (13-10, 2-3) in every quarter and took control in the second stanza with a 23-4 outburst. A trio of Lions scored in the double figures led by Jyson Lacy’s 18, followed by Jason Brazell with 15, and Leric Eaton contributed 11. Lockney’s leading scorer was Max Ramirez with 11. Austin Rodriquez and Jonathan Cienfuegos got close to the double figures with eight apiece.
Despite the loss, Lockney remains very much alive in the district race for a playoff position with three remaining games. Their next two outings will be the road with the Hale Center Owls and Ralls Jackrabbits. The regular season finale will be at Longhorn Gym when they entertain the Floydada Whirlwinds on February 15.
