FLOYD COUNTY – A total of four 4-2A basketball games took place in Floyd County Friday night as the Whirlwinds and Lady Winds hosted Hale Center and the Longhorns hosted New Deal.
On the Girls’ side, the Lockney Lady Horns topped the New Deal Lady Lions 38 to 31, with senior Gabby Cervantes scoring her career 1,000th point.
Meanwhile, the Floydada Lady Winds dropped their matchup with Hale Center by a score of 60-49, leaving the district wide open heading into Tuesday’s games, the final ones of the season.
On the Boys’ side, the New Deal Lions clinched the district title with their massive win over Lockney Longhorns by a final of 65 to 34. And the Floydada Whirlwinds held off the Owls by a final of 77 to 63.
Up next, the Whirlwinds and Lady Winds will travel Tuesday to Ralls to take on the Jackrabbits, while the Longhorns will get their turn with Hale Center, also on the road.
