LOCKNEY – Jackrabbits are known for their fast starts, but it was the Lockney Longhorns that came out with a strong beginning and cruised to a 62-46 win over Ralls for a District 4-2A win at Longhorn Gym on Tuesday night. The Longhorns played the complete game by draining seven 3’s from the arc, got good production in the paint and short-range shots, plus a solid performance at the free-throw line going 12-for-16.
Lockney (12-9, 1-2) outscored Ralls in each of the first three quarters 51-32 and then prevented the Jackrabbits from making a serious comeback by making 9-of-12 attempts at the charity stripe down the stretch. Lockney’s defense was strong in holding Ralls to just 46-points.
Seniors Austin Rodriguez and Josh Barretoros provided the leadership. Rodriguez had a game-high 17-points that included a 6-for-6 performance at the line. Barretoros was next with 16 as he finished 3-for-4 with his free throw shooting. Both made a trio of 3’s each. Jonathan Cienfuegos provided the inside punch with 13-points, and Max Ramirez was close to double-figure scoring with eight.
The Jackrabbits (16-8, 1-2) were paced by Ben Njenga and Chris Luna with 13 and 11 respectively.
