Children tend to follow in their parents’ footsteps when it comes to their chosen careers. They spend much of their lives around what their mother or father does for work, so it makes sense when they go into the “family business” as it were.
What’s unusual is when the child does something else first, like Casey Chesnutt did by serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years before picking his guitar back up and deciding to give ‘Ol’ Country’ a try like his father Mark did in the 1990s.
But that’s not what makes Casey who he is as an artist. It’s the moment of clarity he had standing in the deserts of Kuwait, or the decision to forgo the guitar pickguard on his Taylor acoustic to give it the worn-down sheen that shows he’s put the instrument through its paces in just a few months.
Casey is our guest tonight on 106.1 FLiP FM’s Live From The Backroom. Enjoy as he talks about his new single “Even Texas Couldn’t Hold Her” and shares the story of when he learned one of his dad’s songs wouldn’t be appropriate for the FFA talent show.
