Floydada firefighters spent a snowy Sunday afternoon trying to control a house fire in the 600 block of South Main.
Police Chief Reuben Ramon said the fire started around 12:00 p.m. and that the home was vacant, but was in the process of being remodeled.
The fire burned much of the house, and firefighters spent much of the afternoon keeping the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
According to the Floydada Volunteer Fire Department’s report, firefighters arrived on the scene just after 1 p.m. to find flames burning through the home’s roof, which collapsed shortly after. Extreme heat inside the structure made it impossible for firefighters to enter the home.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a heater that was turned on to prevent pipes from freezing, FVFD said. The home is considered a total loss.
