Longhorns on four-game winning streak after day 1 at Shootout

LOCKNEY — The Lockney Longhorns utilized an aggressive style of play to wear down the Patton Springs Rangers 73-42 on the first day of the Lockney Shootout at Longhorn Gym on Thursday. The Lockney boys (6-3) have now won their last four outings.

The Longhorns were led by senior Austin Rodriguez slashing to the basket with 20 points, while junior Jonathan Cienfuegos was a warrior in the paint and contributed 19 with most baskets on put-backs after a rebound. Josh Barreterro and Chuy Gonzales both scored double-figures for Lockney with 13 and 10 respectively.

Late in the second quarter, Patton Springs had a player foul out that left the Rangers with only four players to finish the game. Patton Springs had only five on their roster. Lockney was already ahead when the foul-out occurred and Longhorns took a 33-20 lead at halftime. The Longhorns would then outscore the Rangers 40-22 over the final two quarters.
