LOCKNEY — The Lockney City Council will meet Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Lockney Community Center with an agenda heavy on police-related items.

Aldermen will consider an interlocal agreement between the city and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for “cooperation and backup support,” laying out the guidelines and expectations for mutual aid between the police department and sheriff’s office.

The council will also revisit a software purchase for the police department. The council tabled the purchase of Axon records management software to explore further options during the October meeting, with some aldermen concerned that the more than $200,000 custom-built software would put the city in considerable debt until 2028. The council decided to check out all options after Chief of Police Casey Fitzwater revealed that he had already signed a contract to purchase the software, apparently unaware of its costs.

Aldermen may also ratify the purchase of a 2021 Dodge Charger police cruiser for $50,000 to be financed through Happy State Bank.

Also during the meeting, the council will choose whether to accept a bid on a new SCADA system for the city’s water department, and will set a time for an ordinance workshop.
